Finding Purpose in Your Wilderness Season

Have you found yourself in a wilderness season over these last few months or even years? Are you wondering why you are there? There is a purpose for this season, there is good news! According to Deuteronomy 8:2 the purpose of the Wilderness is:

  • To test you
  • To humble you
  • To know what was in your heart and whether you would keep His commandments or not.

Why is this important? Because of what lies across the river ! You guessed it, it is the Promise land. It is your inheritance.

But do you remember who occupied the promise land? Giants! An entire generation of Israelites remained fearful and chose fear over faith. As a result, they would not take on the giants and occupy their inheritance. So the inheritance passed on to their children.
This generation was tested and humbled. They were ready to take on the giants and occupy the territory the Lord had given them. And they were made ready because of the wilderness season!
The Lord has an inheritance for you and your generations. He knows you have to contend with some giants to occupy it! Learn to seek Him and hear Him in the wilderness. Believe and obey Him there, where fear is traded for faith. This process tests and humbles you. It is a worthy prerequisite to walking in the fullness of what God has for you and your future generations!

Embrace the wilderness as Jesus did. You are not there because you did something wrong. The Holy Spirit led Jesus into the wilderness. He was tested and humbled there. Then He emerged to start His humanity altering ministry, and so will you!

Deuteronomy 8:2 “And you shall remember that the LORD your God led you all the way these forty years in the wilderness, to humble you and test you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not.”
