Vulnerability Detection: A Spiritual and Cyber Perspective

I was in the field of cybersecurity for over 15 years and a cybersecurity executive for a portion of that. I still review occasional reports and headlines from the cyber world. This particular headline about Identity layer failure being a hidden systemic risk caught my attention.

From a Spiritual perspective if our Identity is not rooted and grounded in Christ….it is a hidden and systemic risk. Systemic means, the entire system is at risk due to this vulnerability, and hidden is treacherous because you may not even be aware of the vulnerability, until an attack by the enemy exploits it and causes significant damage to the entire system.

So what is our defense? Ask the Holy Spirit to expose the vulnerability so you can deal with it, before the enemy exploits it. In the cyber world we call this practice vulnerability detection, which can be done by running penetration tests and other simulations to expose the hidden faults in a safe and controlled manner.

So how would you detect this vulnerability spiritually? Some key risk indicators (KRIs) would be:

  • When you encounter mini triggers that make you uncomfortable,
  • When your mood rises and falls based on others opinions or recognition of you,
  • When you hide or water down God’s Word because you don’t want to offend others,
  • When you compare yourself with others, these are all good indicators of an underlying identity based vulnerability.

So how do we patch these vulnerabilities? Ask God to expose the lies you have believed about Him, yourself or others. Then patch that vulnerability by repenting and replacing lies with truth, fear with faith, orphan spirit with knowing you are a daughter or son of the most High God, made to bear His image.

Choose today to walk unwavering and boldly with Jesus, rooted and grounded in Him alone. There can be no other god’s before Him.…not your accolades, not your need to be liked, not your need to please others, not your fear of man. Do not underestimate the hidden risk. Let His light expose, correct and patch your vulnerabilities (iniquities).

Isaiah 53:5 NKJV

[5] But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.
